How to video: How to Make a Windchime using Soda Cans
I really enjoyed this project. It challenged me in the way of how I iterate information in detail and focus on the steps being processed. Making the project and recording myself doing so was actually the fun and manageable part. Recording my voice and giving the proper steps was the difficult and frustrating part. After many voice recordings, I was finally able to gather all the vocal steps and reminders that were necessary. I had a chance to experiment making this windchime last semester for my metals and jewelry class when we unexpectedly had to go virtual. Since I did not have access to the tools and materials in the classroom, I had to improvise. It was exciting to see what I was able to create with such minimal tools/materials I had at home. I kept this in mind while deciding what I wanted my "How to" video to be on. I imagine the students, like myself, having to be challenged in what they can creatively create while being at home. The materials are something that most students will have around the house, can borrow, or affordably buy. The process is pretty doable, although I can see where students may need extra guidance in. Overall, this was a fun and simple assignment that I would love to do with my future students some day.
Animation: I want to meet the Moon...
This project was really fun to tackle and (at times) was a little frustrating. First and foremost, I salute all stop motion/claymation artist/directors. This type of work takes a lot of patience, time, and retries. Automatically, I knew I wanted to create something with the moon in mind. Coyolxauhqui (moon in Nahuatl) holds many spiritual powers which is why I wanted to convey the desire to wanting to be in the presence of such power and beauty. After creating the storyboard and brainstorming some ideas, I went with watercolor- mainly so I can have a variety shades of brown. I had to keep in mind all the movement that will be happening and the extra elements I'd have to paint/cutout. At first, I took the photos with just my camera and used iMovie to complete the process. However, it did not execute the stop motion the way I wanted. So, I downloaded the app OnionCam2, which is a stop motion app that utilizes the app's camera and compresses the images for you into a video. After using the stop motion app, I uploaded it to iMovie to edit the speed and add sound to the video. I am satisfied with the outcome and look forward to experimenting with this again.
Podcast: Who Am I?
For this project, I decided to write a short poem describing all the contributions in my life that make me an artists, but most importantly the person I am. We are all influenced by our surroundings, people, experiences, and so much more. With those influences, we become the people we are today. I speak loud on my own experiences and all those around me. This poem pays homage to that while visually presenting my art space. I find it important to have those two worlds interact with each other, for I am not one without the other. This project seemed intimidating at first, but soon after starting it flowed so easily. Esto es para mi familia. Esto es para mi barrio! Enjoy!
Bitmoji Classroom |
My bitmoji classroom is a virtual reflection of how I would like my classroom set-up as. I added posters and a world map that will gain the students interests. I find the world map important because I want to subliminally tell my students that they are represented in wherever they may be from. I added a LGBTQ+ and power fist poster to show that I am in support of that community and for the equality and justice that is needed. Then I added some art and cultural posters. In the second slide, my artist of the week is Roberto Lugo. He is an activist, artist, and educator from the hood of Philadelphia. I chose him for my artist of the week because I think my students can really relate to his artwork and what he stands for- resources for the hood. This artist represents that although we may come from low income areas that are high in incarceration and drugs, we can overcome all odds against us and be innovators. My third slide, is a section where students can have to the opportunity to voice their questions, comments, and/or concerns. Once I had an idea, it was fun to create the bitmoji classroom and play around with the different images.
3D Modeling
For my 3D project, I will be morphing together a scorpion and butterfly. The scorpion has significance to me because my grandpa is from Durango, Mexico and that is their state’s symbol. The reason I want to incorporate the butterfly is because my loves butterflies. She has little butterfly decorations throughout the house and even has a tattoo of one. She says her love of butterflies comes simply from always wanting to be one so she can fly high and go wherever she may like.
This project was quite challenging to be honest. I even had my 10 year niece try to work Tinkercad and she had a hard time. This was a new medium to use for me and although I had a rough time, it was fun to play around with all the tools on Tinkercad.
